• 2010 Audi A8 / 2011 Audi S8

Audi is charging ahead with its third-generation A8, set to be unveiled at the Frankfurt auto show in the fall of 2009. Once released, it will battle a slightly face-lifted Mercedes-Benz S-class, expected to be unveiled next spring, and BMW's all-new 2009 7-series. But unlike the rather conservative 7-series, which backed away from the audacious styling of its predecessor, the next Audi A8 will show a new look and carry the brand forward stylistically.

  • BMW 7 Series Autoshow

BMW seems to be on a mission lately to offer something for everyone, no matter how nonsensical a certain consumer’s particular set of needs and wants may be. Case in point: the brilliant X6 and its mutant half-sister, the 5-series Gran Turismo. The latest in Bavaria’s barrage of the bizarre, the ActiveHybrid 7—a full-size “luxury performance” hybrid—seems to actually make sense relative to those two. It doesn’t hurt the argument for its existence that a competitor from Lexus—the LS600hL—has been on the road for two years now.

Jaguar's flagship XJ has been slowly sinking for some time now as sales of this sedan with decades-old styling slip further behind its competitors'. Jaguar is hoping to inject enough temporary buoyancy into the model to keep it visible until a more modern replacement arrives in 2010.

Maruti Suzuki unveiled this futuristic looking MPV concept - the RIII - at the Auto Expo in Delhi. We're quite sure this will be toned down quite a bit before it actually goes into production, which we suppose will happen by 2011-12. The proposed reduction in duties for hybrids is being considered to promote the use of eco-friendly vehicles that are low on emissions. Until now, Honda is the only manufacturer to have sold a hybrid car – the Civic Hybrid – in India, though in very limited numbers only.
